Fall Bridal: Your day, your dress

Your dress is one of the biggest parts of your wedding day. It is photographed, framed, and shared with generations to come. It is the part that takes your fiance’s breath away as you walk down the aisle. Okay, let’s be honest, you take your fiance’s breath away, but your dress helps out a bit! So what’s with all the stress in finding your dress? Well, when you’re told that you can only wear a certain type of dress because of your body type, or the whole crew you brought along likes something different than you, it can be a bit overwhelming. So, here are some tips when you are looking for “the one”…

People at Appointments

Think about who you really want to be by your side at your appointment. It may be a really close friend, sister, mom or dad. Sometimes it is all four and sometimes it’s all of your close friends and sisters and family. Invite whoever you feel will be the most supportive of you. Remember, everybody has different tastes, so stay true to you and what you love. Some brides even go shopping by themselves first to test the waters and see what styles they love. After that initial appointment, the whole crew is then invited to join in the fun. Do what feels best for you to find your dress.

Different Styles

Try on different styles the first time you go shopping. Yes, it may be a sea of ivory, organza, and crystals when you first walk into a bridal shop, but it’s most fun when you’re open minded. If there are a few styles that you find appealing, show the consultant. That can be a great starting point. After that, try on a style or two that you didn’t think of — you may be pleasantly surprised! The key is to have fun when you’re starting to try on wedding dresses. Most styles can be ordered in different colours and sizes so it’s mainly just the look that you’re drawn to that matters in the beginning.

Take Breaks

If you’re planning on making a day of bridal shopping, make sure you have enough time between appointments to relax and mull over your various options with your entourage. This makes the process enjoyable and lets the feeling your going for really take shape. After all, finding your dress isn’t just another day of shopping. It can bring with it a wide range of emotions as this is sometimes when the reality of the engagement sinks in. Yes, you are really getting married! When this realization hits you, it might not only be you who is crying, but your mom, dad, future mother-in-law, friends, and grandma too. Take the time to embrace all of the powerful emotions. It’s a huge moment in your life, so the more you can enjoy it the better!

Take the Pressure Off

Last, but definitely not least, take the pressure off. Whether it’s your first or fifth time you are searching for “the one”, you will find your dress and fall in love with it. You’ll just know it!
