Gail McDougall First Female Board Chair President 1984

Gail, an active member and volunteer for 40 years and she served in her early 30’s at a time when women on Boards was not “common” much less in a maledominated environment. Under the mentorship of Peter Whitenect (past CEO) she wanted to be a voice for Volunteers (as she has a passion for volunteerism) and advocate for more women to take on board leadership roles. “Yes, it was hard as a woman, but that experience made a difference to me and to other women to join the YMCA as volunteers in some way.”

Pauline Melis and Gail McDougall

Pauline Melis Current Board President 2019-2021 second female Board President.

Pauline is an advocate of women from all walks of life in leadership roles. Sitting on the YMCA of Saskatoon board – first as a board committee member and now as the YMCA’s second Board Chair President. Pauline is committed to breaking down barriers for individuals and families. Being a member of the Y for over 35 years and a strong supporter of the Strong Kids Campaign, getting the word out of all that the YMCA has to offer is her passion. “We are the Y, and we are for everyone. This includes children and women.”

Jordyn Allen
– Current Board
Committee Member

Jordyn has been a life-long member of the YMCA and has served two terms on the Board over the past several years. She feels she can “affect change with the younger generation – and women specifically – by being more involved” and that a diverse board in age, culture and in gender brings many views and experiences to the table. Goals should also align if possible. For example, my personal goals align because I want to help kids and families connect, grow and be all that they can be in the community.

The YMCA of Saskatoon has been committed even more so over the past 10+ years to seeking more input and participation from Leaders of all genders and backgrounds. While in the past we have been known as the YM, today we really are the Y which focuses on every individual in our community.
