HomeStyles, Gardenscape sure signs of spring

Happy anniversary HomeStyles. The HomeStyles Home & Renovation Show will run from March 20-22. It is the 40th anniversary of the show. “If you are a homeowner in search of renovation expertise, products or services, you have come to the right place,” it says on the show’s website. “If you are in search of a Certified Professional Home Builder to build your first or future home, you have also come to the right place.”

There will be much more, including stage presentations. The RenoMark Main Stage will feature regional experts discussing renovation do’s and don’ts, industry trends and home organization. The Cooking Stage will return, featuring Canada’s own Brian Misko of House of Q, a multi-award-winning BBQ sauce and spice creator.

There will be vendors showcasing everything imaginable for your home, both inside and out. HomeStyles has been operated by the Saskatoon & Region Home Builders’ Association for all 40 years.

The calendar says spring arrives on March 19 in the Northern Hemisphere. In Saskatoon, we can set our calendars to March 27. That’s the day Gardenscape begins its three-day run at Prairieland Park.

They are the most colourful three days in the city. In addition to the rows and rows of exhibits, there are a large number of special events and displays, including the feature gardens, “These feature gardens reflect the expertise, planning and hard work of many with more than 1,500 pots of spring bulbs, over 100 large trees, shrubs and perennials forced in preparation for this annual spring tradition with each garden designed by Saskatchewan’s premier landscape design experts,” it says on Gardenscape’s website.

“Many of the gardens incorporate both plant materials and the latest in hardscape materials including retaining walls and brick patios as well as feature mulch in many colours and textures. Working alongside our designers are the capable and talented master gardeners lending a helping hand in the final presentation.” They not only look good, but they smell good, too.

Another popular part of the show is the How-To Stage in Hall C, where local experts will provide tips on topics such as container gardening, the right ingredients for composting, tree care, lawn care, hydroponic gardening and more. The presentations are spread out over the three days.

There is a make and take, where those participating get can their hands dirty and construct a tropical arrangement. It costs $30 and will take about 20 minutes to complete your project
