Free stage better outside Bessborough Gardens

• I know it is a tough job and you can’t please everyone, but I hope those in charge of the SaskTel Jazz Festival will consider putting the free stage back outside the main venue next year. I went downtown at noon on the final day of the festival, only to be greeted by security people and curtains blocking an empty sea of grass at the back of the Bessborough. It didn’t feel like a festival with no music and no activity on Spadina Crescent.

• To be fair, people raved about the quality of the mainstage performers.

• My dog is so lazy that when I get him a treat, I have to walk it over to him.

• I have never read a single edition of Mad Magazine. I have never had Nutella or poutine and have never gone to Red Lobster. Does that make me a bad person?

• In about 30 seconds the other day, I saw a guy make three driving violations: an illegal left turn, crossing a solid line and speeding. But enough about me.

• I think we can agree the Clark government is the greenest city council in the history of Saskatoon. It boggled my mind when Clark and his green gang voted against having a solar-powered community in Saskatoon.

• To be fair, Clark’s speech at the opening of the Nutrien Wonderhub was a dandy.

• Shouldn’t there have been an Amber Alert when an 18-month-old child was reported missing? It’s the better safe than-sorry thing.

• My dog recently had 11 teeth pulled. Does anyone know a doggy denturist?

• From golfer Phil Mickelson: “Sitting here watching the U.S. women’s soccer team thinking what a great game soccer is and how much I loved playing it as a kid. Except for the running. I never really cared for the running.”

• There will be a Straight Pride Parade in August in Boston. What a bunch of yahoos.

Rain didn’t put a damper on the Saskatoon Pride Parade at the end
of last month. The parade was as colourful as these umbrellas.

• There was a day a couple of weeks ago with the top Twitter trends in Canada were The Bachelorette, Nazem Kadri and Gainer. People must have taken a day off from Kawhi Leonard.

• From former Winnipeg sportswriter Patti Dawn Swansson: “A ship carrying 1,500 tons of Canadian garbage arrived on our shores last week, but there’s no truth to the rumour that (Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff) was there to meet it and look for a defenceman.”

• When the Stanley Cup was in Saskatoon, I wish there had been a public event. Why did Regina have all the fun?

• If I was the GM of the New York Islanders, I would have signed Mitch Marner to an $11+ million offer sheet. It would be payback for what John Tavares did to the Isles last summer.

• Of the 5,600 games played in CFL history, only 17 have had 55 or more points scored in the first half. The Riders/Redblacks game a few weeks ago is one of them.

• According to a study, 71 per cent of Americans believe in hell, but only .5 per cent think that they’ll end up there. I wonder what Donald Trump thinks.

• From comedy writer Alex Kaseberg: “Rappers Cardi B, Migos, Lil Yachty and XStankZuzu performed in L.A. Be honest, how many knew I just made up XStanZuzu?”
